Have just come home and logged in, only to read this utterly devastating news.   So so sorry we were not able to find Meg in time.   Only consolation is that she did not suffer, and I am truly relieved and grateful for that, I've not been able to get her out of my mind this week.   Rest in peace, lovely Meg, my condolences to owner Val, and Lisa at Greyhound Gap, you were a true friend. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I would just like to thank you all for your help and thoughts over the last week. As you can imagine we are all devestated at the loss of one of our beautiful special hounds. I am just so greatful that we found her and that she is now safely back within the Gap fold and im sure our angels met her as she crossed the bridge. My biggest fear this week has been that she was injured and suffering and I can only be thankful that she passed quickly. Run like the wind my angel then rest easy in our hearts. Your truly are pure MAGIC.  Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Many camping and caravanners are away this half term holiday week.  Try the site ukcampsite.co.uk for as many camp sites addresses as possible in this area and ask for their help.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have been following Megs story and am wishing her home, I only wish that I was nearer so that I could help in your search.  It's just an idea but, a few months ago a Grey named Lilly went missing and her owners posted a "Help find Lilly" site on Facebook and I know that a lot of animal lovers were made aware of her plight through this sight and she was subsequently found.  This might be an idea as Facebook is widely used and you would probably hit a wider area.  I really hope you find her today, my thoughts are with you x xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Theres a popular area in Lyndhurst not 4 miles from there as the crow flies (or dog runs) A large green area with a hill and a cricket pitch? Loads of people go there in teh summer to see the "wild" ponies. It seems like a great spot to put up posters? Asking the young farmers sons and daughters home from uni for half term to help is another idea? They will likely be in the pubs on Friday but I hope she's found before then. If anyone knows the local post man (not post office) he would be a good person to ask. Has anyone posted on the local Freecycle for help looking for her?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I have sent Meg's information through to Beaulieu asking them to display around the Museum.  It is half term so there must be a lot of people visiting the museum and forest. They just need that call and we will get her home.  I have everything crossed for this dog.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Liz has had communication this morning with the animal communicator who says Meg is now very weak cold and her tummy is hurting. The temperature out there for tonight is -6. We now have one bloodhound on the ground searching who is trained for this and another on the way who should be on the ground within half an hour. Please please keep your fingers crossed this girl NEEDS to be in tonight.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Lisa from GG and I have both independently been in touch with animal communicators and they are pointing us in a direction to the south west of The Happy Cheese.  Having been searching there yesterday,  I reckon that she is either to the west of Home Farm in the open area called Longwater Lawn or south towards Matley Bog/Kings Passage/Fulliford Bog.From the railway bridge at Fulliford Bog you come to the edge of the woods and it falls away to Longwater Lawn and Home Farm to the north. If she hasn't crossed the railway line, then I reckon she is moving along the north side of Withycombe Shade towards Decoy Pond Farm.  Please can people give some thought to this, rather than just concentrate on the enclosure?  Thanks, we are so desperate to get Meg home

Spoke to Val this morning, unfortunately no good news.   They are going to poster wider now as they feel she may have been taken in.   Unfortunately it seems the possible sighting early on Saturday morning was in fact a Jack Russell..........   Hope the wider publicity does the trick and that Meg is soon found.     Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Went out early this morning - one advantage of the extra hour !   Walked through the forest, dogs flushed out deer and squirrels, kept telling them it was a black and white greyhound they need to find - very wet, and unfortunately no sighting, although apparently someone thinks they did see her yesterday morning about 7.30am near to the area she went missing - called, but she wouldn't come.   This was told to me by Lisa from Greyhound Gap who made the 3 and 1/2hour trip in the early hours of this morning, and who I subsequently met on our search.   Thought I'd travelled far enough LOL !   What a star, she is going to stay in the area all day and out again at first light tomorrow.   Also saw owner Val, and there are to be people walking at different times through the day, so lots of help locally out there, which is great.   Come on Meg, please let yourself be found soon xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Meant to say, someone contacted New Forest Dog Warden Neil Burton last night so he is already aware, and Val knows about the 7 day rule, although they are hopeful that as Meg is tagged with her phone number, this will hopefully get her home, and she is of course chipped.   She does have a muzzle on, but they feel she will be able to certainly drink still - the muzzle is to stop her getting the squirrels, of which I saw plenty, also deer.   It's a lovely part of the forest, very wet at the moment so no water issues for Meg.   Keep safe Meg, you're needed and missed at home xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Bess 'n' Barney's Mum
Have just spent a couple of hours in the forest at Ashurst, my dogs loved it but unfortunately no sighting of Meg.   Had one heart-stopping moment but it was a magpie in the trees - right colour, wrong breed!   Did meet up with owner Val and partner with their other two greyhounds and they are still out there now - apparently this isn't the first time Meg has gone missing, but they feel she won't be able to find her own way home.   They were out until late last night and back again very early this morning and the area is well postered, so they're doing all they can. One thing to say is that the 2nd number on the poster is wrong, it should read 89, not 88.   I left a lengthy message on the wrong number this morning and had a call back from a very nice person who didn't have a clue what I was talking about!   So this does need changing. I'm sure Val won't mind me giving her number on here, it's 07803 050824, perhaps this could go on the poster instead of the wrong one?   Think the ones on the poster are both for Greyhound Gap - the posters I saw, incidentally, were not doglost posters, and do have Val's number on them. Have spoken to Val since getting home - 36 mile round trip but would have been worth it - and no joy yet.   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I live roughly 10 miles from Ashurst and have left a message on owner's mobile offering to help search if Meg is still missing.   Am a bit confused as I don't recognise landline code so maybe owner doesn't live in the area?   Hopefully I will hear something later, meantime keep safe, Meg xx   Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There is a real good chance that she is still around the area she went from. Most dogs do come back to the place they last saw their owners.   Find a safe place around that area and leave some of her bedding and clothing with your scent on, plus some smelly food such as tripe or pilchards. This will keep her in the area. Please try to return there yourself at break of day and early evening times when she will be wanting food and out and about.   Hand out posters to dog walkers in that area and place posters everywhere even on your car in the car park. Good luck and hope to see her on the reunited pages soon.      Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
