I don't understand this latest comment by canineconnect...? Winston is doing just fine. He's a bit wary when he goes out for walks, but is begining to perk up a bit quicker each time. Don't know about time being a good healer, but food treats certainly help! [G]Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I will not take all the credit ... 3 people (a local lurcher man named Ritchie, Donna & myself) cornered him & Ritchie grabbed him... Paddy is heading home with him now... He's looking very shell-shocked by everything and is very quiet & depressed ... We couldn't have done it without so many people who were involved..... including...... Ritchie & the Hawkman (I think he's called Steve) who tracked down Winston's hideout soooo well Everybody who spent time doing posters/leaflets & searching.... Everybody who sent donations making it easier for Paddy, Eddie & I to be there as much as possible Everybody I've forgotten .. cos i'm crap at this ... It was a day of such mixed emotions though From the anxious, nervous moments after first spotting him.....and waiting for the others to get there.. To the relief when it became obvious that Ritchie was NOT letting go..... To the joy of hearing Donna squealing with delight and holding him close to her To the elation of being able to phone Paddy and say "we've got him" .... and her emotional reaction was *pure magic* And then feelings of sorrow for Donna.....watching the elation of finding him turn into the realisation that she now had to say goodbye.... Thankyou to everyone for all the messages............ xx Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Paddy's had a phonecall from some jokers, saying they'd got Winston and wanted ?200. There was a lot of giggling in the background and fortunately Paddy told them to p***off!! If they'd managed to catch him they'd need several Elastoplast!! Bite in panic? I bet he would. He's not going to run up to anyone and say " save me, I'm lost" Just kids messing around, but it upset Paddy for a few minutes.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

To Paddy and Eddie and Fyreblade and all of you, I am so sorry that foolish people managed to make the situation even worse :( People who say they "know dogs" drive me up the wall! It's a lifetime's study and you never really know dogs other than your own anyway. Hugs to you all, don't be disheartened, I am sure you will get him though it's so worrying with snow forecast. Hope you don't get too much of it, just enough for pawprints could be helpful. I remember there was a klein spitz on the run a couple of years ago. The searchers were at their wits' end and then at last a gamekeeper saw him go into a pheasant keep and shut the gate on him. Hope you get some kind of lucky break like that. Can I take this opportunity to remind anyone and everyone who reads this who may be in the area, or helping in any way, that *any* attempt to look at him, approach him, catch him and he WILL RUN AWAY. PLEASE just phone. Observe him. If its safe lob food down for him a distance away and *move away* from him so he doesn't suspect a trap. Don't look at him. Dont't call him (that's a HUGE trigger for fear now...) We keep saying this to people til we are blue in the face and they WILL NOT HEED us. They think they "know dogs". That is irrelevent, He is now feral. He is like a wild animal. Wild animals do not go to the people who are chasing them or approaching them with a clear intention of catching them do they? So what do people keep insisting he might? They RUN. Call us, please. Heed us. We may not catch him either...but he has lived with Eddie and me. We both have had experience of fearful, panicky dogs. Eddie particularly has VAST experience in this. We each have a dog Winston has lived with all his life. He *might* respond to them, but not if he has been panicked by other people first. That is why we need to be ones who try and catch him. Its not just because we are some huge ego trip and think we know better...its becasue he knows us, we know him, we have dogs he has lived with and yes, we do have the experience of winning him over because we did that when he first came into rescue. Sorry this has got so long, but I am gutted and just don't know how to get this message across to people. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Nothing yesterday ..... and there are alot of dog walkers in the new area so we think if he's not in hiding he *would* be seen.... police confirmed they saw him trying to cross the A69 & chased him away .... if he carries on heading in the direction he seems to be ... it's all countryside/farmland/woods .. so not sure if that'll make it more difficult to trace him ... heading up there now for the day & Eddie is coming up this afternoon too .. so fingers crossed for some sightings at least xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Awww come on you two .... I know it's frustrating & disappointing ... but we've got to keep hoping ..... I'm fairly sure the food was gone from the same place again today ..... but it was definately still there at the 2nd spot .... so I'm hoping that means it's Winston !! Maybe if the weather picks up over the weekend (as it's supposed to) more people will be out & about and have a better chance of sighting him ..... xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

That was my first thought too Paddy .... but then we've hardly managed to persuade 'huge' amounts of people to tramp around even from good friends, people in the breed etc .. :-( So can't seeing them having much luck ....I have been careful about mentioning his 'exact' whereabouts and am assuming any press release will have had input from Donna ... who would've said the same things as you?? And probably carry the mobile number ... so you can set everybody straight ...... And if the worst comes to the worst & he moves on again ... it might help track him down quicker?? It's just such a difficult & frustrating situation... xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I know we need sightings but I do hope all the publicity doesn't mean there are lot of people tramping around to scare him off. What we need now are people who are willing to watch out for him, back off and phone us. Not people looking for him and going after him believing they could catch him. They won't. Anyone who gets the opportunity..*please* make that point! If he is frightened away from the area by well meaning people we will have to start all over again and we might lose track of him entirely.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I'm optimistic too, but think that the cat traps are the way. A sedative dart is out of the question for such a tiny animal. There are very few people licensed to use these and they are only suitable for largish animals. A small one could be injured or overdosed. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Reading posts nearly every day. I have made a link from my web site (Springer Rescue), Ive seen how distraught Paddy is & I personally am optimistic that he will be caught. I suggested TV and maybe a good marksman (RSPCA) ???!!!??? for sedative I hasten to add! :), always pro's and con's tho with this, but just a suggestion. With you on this one in thought, if only I could leave the kennels to come and help....all the best, Sarah.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Keep your chin up, Eddie. There is no reason to suppose he isn't still in hiding round that area. One day without sightings, or even two, certainly doesn't signify that much, and at least you have been able to get some food into him recently. Hope you get a sighting today and he decides to get himself into a trap soon.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Traps are already being got and hopefully will be in place today. Places have been idnentified as best ie where he habitually goes and we will be asking the local people who have been feeding him up til now to keep him on the estate, to stop feeding him, so he is willing to risk the traps. Its getting cold now so I hope this works...Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Donna (the owner) wanted me to let everyone know how grateful she is for your kind words & all the help she's received. She has tried to register so that she could post herself but it wouldn't let her :-( Anyway, sad to report that when I had to leave the search at around 1.30pm little Winston was still managing to evade us. There was a sighting (same place) in the morning .. everyone was there within minutes ... but nothing! Food has been left out & has been eaten so maybe we can at least keep him fed & in the area. Yes I'd thought of the trap. At the mo. I've suggested feeding twice daily on a clicker signal. (he knows about clickers) in the same place. If we end up feeding the local cats who cares. Paddy's going up tomorrow as her "income appt" has cancelled!!Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Eddie, I can't think of a more frustrating situation. It's a lesson to me though to post more even if briefly otherwise it could look as if I'm not interested! It does occur to me that if you can get any idea of where the little mite is hanging around but can't catch him, you should be able to get a trap fairly easily. There are many more cat traps to be had than dog traps, and one of those should do for Winston. Check out the local cat rescuers maybe. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Apologies to all for me spitting the dummy out. It's just that Dylan and Winston lived with me for 2 or three months, then we decided that Paddy would give them some one to one training so they moved to her house. From there, two or three months later Donna adopted them. She lives over 200miles from either Paddy or me. Winston escaped 4 days after moving there. Paddy and I are the only people this dog knows. He is loose in a strange town and not very able to cope. His brother isn't coping without him. These current sightings are very encouraging and now Fyreblade and Nixtev are looking daily it's even better. It was the lack of interest that upset me. But now I'm cheered up............ a bit. Thank you for posting all of you. :-0Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Don't feel like it's really my place to say! But there was an ad in the classifieds Lost & Found section of THE local newspaper tonight!! (Evening Chronicle) There are posters on virtually every tree in Lemington !! Both Paddy & Eddie have travelled extremely long distances in the hope that this very scared little man will go to them!! And the rest of us have been posting leaflets through doors & generally scouting around the area in the hope of making a definate & immediate sighting..... I'm sure someone else will be in a position to give you more info than me..........Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

There is obviously a time/distance issue here. Can someone please post details of any media coverage and I'll follow up on others Thurs.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Eddie, I am watching this thread and updating to Phoenix Rescue in the area as all kinds of things get reported to rescues. I can't do much in this area, I have never been there and am miles away. The threads where I most often post are those in areas I have lived in or know very well which is why I am in evidence on the Lenny and Teddy threads. With others I just watch and crosspost to anyone I know in that area. I'm glad there was another sighting on Wed morning, please continue to update this thread. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I forgot to mention:- Dolly has been missing 9 months 3 days now and for a long while the majority of postings on her page were by me. I kept an eye on her viewings and for days on end I was the only one looking at her page. Shit happens but I am still here supporting everyone else. DOLLY 6.2.05Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Runfold Eddie, I am interested in all the dogs missing, reunited and found on this site which is why I check them all every day. Just because I do not post does not mean I do not care, if people are actively posting info to each other I do not like to post just to wish them well and take up valuable page space. I know what these people are going through and I do care very much. Dolly 6.2.05Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Aww Eddie ...lots of people care about Winston ... just cos they don't post doesn't mean people don't care ...... I've even registered especially ! There is an ad in tonight's local paper & posters all over the area. Here's hoping Eddie might have some luck as she's up here searching now. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

I can't physically help, I'm miles away - sorry. Would Winston be most likely to keep running or hide away? By the time it gets to evening/night I know black dogs are very difficult to see which unfortunately won't help matters. If I can help via the PC please PM me. ValLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Runfold-Eddie:
For those interested, which can be counted on one hand. There was a sighting on Wed morning. I will not be posting any more on this site unless there is more interest in this poor dog. There are over 1,000 mails for a street wise labrador and this dog will be dead within a week as he's a real nervous dog in the middle of a strange built up area.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
Runfold-Eddie:
There's not been a sighting since Sunday 10am. It's very worrying as it's a built up area. There's NO WAY anyone has caught him, well not without him biting in blind panic. Poor little chap, he's so confused anyway. Paddyis going up again on Tuesday and I hope to on Wednesday.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Paddy was in the area all day (from Lincoln) It is Lemington, Newcastle. There was an apparent sighting but nothing since. They have delivered, door to door, 400 posters. Done the usual, vets, kennels etc and I think it'll be local Radio tomorrow. Oh, I do hope he's found safe and well. Poor little man. His brother, Dylan has never been without him and misses him.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Paddy's going up tomorrow, so please keep fingers crossed that she spots him and he has the courage to go to her. We're all so worried about the little man. Him and his brother have been through a lot. I have the third member of the trio living with me.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
