I'm so relieved to hear that Meg is safe where she belongs. Just so sorry that the rest of the story is so tragic. Thinking of the family xx

Kate
Such brilliant news, I'm so glad Meg has been found and reunited with her family. Thoughts are with all the family...xx.
Ellie
Jodie has now confirmed that Meg has been collected. She thanks everyone involved and says without DogLost she would not know where to start and word would not have got out. She says the family now have a chance to grieve accordingly.

Myself would also like to thank everyone for pulling together with this. One final plea, if you see posters about on your travels would you remove them please? Well done everyone.
shimmygirl
I am praying that it is true that she has been found. I have been following this thread for Days hoping for some Good news.
A very sad time for her family.

Ellie
Trying to confirm that Meg may have been found in Markfield by dog walkers. Hope this is the news we all wanted! Will update when I can.
jules1971
I have printed some more posters and left in a couple of shops and covered lamp posts and handed out to a few dog walkers, Hope she is home very soon xx
Kate
Seems Meg is a very sensible Collie dog, but am guessing fairly and obviously pretty wary, given what she has been through.....I am a very calm person, generally quiet natured, so will not spook her too much I'm hoping.
Kate
No problem, will take out some tinned sardines for her, this evening, see if Meg will be about once the roads have quietened down. This seems to be the time of day most sightings have been reported.x. :)
DogLostJayne - Founder Doglost.
Tx Kate and everyone....
rottie
probably re stating what already on blog but from reading through this seems clear that who ever looking out for her needs to do so in a very calm way so as not to frighten her from this area, seems to be plenty of water sources for her, need to now gain her trust alittle so as to hopefully either get her to go to someone or be able to set a monitored humane trap in an area where she is being regularly fed. i am approx 40miles away but will gladly do some shifts monitoring a trap if we get to this point. Not sure if any doglost staff could advice on this but if people locally such as kate are likely to see her is it worth them keeping some smelly tinned sardines and slip lead with them just incase they do come across her, they could then possible sit on floor no eye contact and see if perhaps would come over with smell of food or is this likely to spook her? Last edited: 2013-07-15 13:04:51 by rottie
Kate
It seems Meg is keeping pretty close to where the accident happened, but obviously moving very quickly, so seems in reasonable health. Do hope she is finding some drinking water in this hot weather, but guessing she must be getting pretty hungry by now.
Kate
Hello, I live in Markfield, less than half a mile from the crash site, have been leaving various threads and messages on the "Help Find Meg" website. I have printed off some posters, courtesy of yourselves, will take them out very shortly. Went out last night to see if I could find any sightings, but no joy. I regularly walk through where Meg was last seen en-route to work, so will definitely keep an eye out for her.
Ellie
Daisysmum is mapping all the areas Meg has been seen, many thanks!
Ellie
The family saw Meg yesterday but she ran off. They took their other dog to the area today but no luck. Last sighting was at Beech Road, Markfield Community Centre.
I am appealing for all those searching to liaise together, there is no point in leaving food here there and everywhere. We must establish a point she is going back to, set up a feeding station and then possibly trap from there
jules1971
Ive only just got back from my holiday I live in markfield and my friend text me to say meg has been sighted this morning at Markfield Community centre. they are all aware of who she is and are trying to capture her, no joy yet.. but lots of people in the village know as I posted to all my friends before I went.. hopefully someone will have some joy x I will have a look around later x
ClaireC
At least she has access to water especially in this hot weather. Stay safe Meg. Such an awful tragedy for the family and I do know what they are going through xx
DogLostOwl
Yes, there are various streams in that area north of the A59, and the lady who is putting food out in the area where she was seen several times yesterday has confirmed that this is near a stream.
ClaireC
I'm sure she is going to be looking for a watering hole possibly nearby a river or brook/ponds! Is there such a place as I am not familiar with the are or even near it?Last edited: 2013-07-13 19:36:01 by ClaireC
Becks
Just spoken to a lady who uses the jetty's through Markfield daily, twice this week she has seen a collie along these, once near The Green/Church area that ran off, she wasn't aware of Meg but will keep a look out now. I'll be out round the Hill Lane/Alter Stones Lane early evening with my dogs so will keep a look out.
Laurel
There are a few farm and out buildings in the Ulverscroft/Priory lane area and some very close to were she was last seen, i shall visit the area again with description of buildings in my mind
DogLostMax - Area Co-ordinator - Cornwall & Area Volunteer - Durham & Ireland
Please stay safe Meg until you can be reunited. Wishing everyone all the very best, I hope you get positive results.
Ellie
Have now also spoken with Laurel. A previous sighting of Meg was of her sitting on the grass verge on the slip road off the M1 over to A50 towards Markfield. Also has been seen in the village. She moved quickly so seems uninjured. The A50 backs to Ulverscroft Manor/Priory Lane area which they are concentrating on
Thank you also jenrail43 for messaging me
Again Laurel is aware how to react if she sees her.
CM and Laurel now have my mobile number should they see her again. Last edited: 2013-07-13 00:43:32 by Ellie
jenrail43
Mt friend is a psychic and Dog Whisperer........ whilst talking to him on the phone this morning he told me to stop and asked if there were andy double bay fronted farm houses in the location she went missing, the front door is in the middle of the two bay windows......... he said he senses her there and that could be a starting point. I don't know the area that well so I can't comment if there are or aren't. I have also posted this on the Face Book page. He has foundn lost dogs in this way before, but he lives in the West so can't help much more.
Ellie
Thanks for ringing me CM. Meg was seen at 6 o'clock this morning where her friend keeps horses. This was in a field between the M1 and Field Head Hotel Roundabout on the Newtown Linford side. This is not far from the scene of the accident.
Meg did run through the stable yard shortly after the tragedy on Saturday morning but no one was aware of what happened then. So it does seem, as we thought, she is coming back to as close as she dares to where she last saw her family.
I have got Laurels phone number (although going to ansaphone at the moment) to see if she can leave food, water and perhaps a shady stable door open to gain Megs trust we can go from there
Agility is also run there which may attract Megs attention and CM says she can be there in minutes if anyone sees her, she has 3 collies herself so will know what to do. Everyone at Agility and the stables now aware.
Teddys Mum - Area Volunteer, West London
I hope Meg is still showing herself. For those of you out and about looking...if you do see her, get down on the floor and whimper, have some food in your hand. She may well come to you. As Owl has said, avoid eye contact. If you stand and call her she will only run. Good luck. I so hope hope you catch her soon poor little girl. Such trauma for her.
Ellie
Jodie's informed me she has been advised to put 101 Police Contact number on posters rather than Crimestoppers
colliebird
Meg will be staying in the area where the accident was. It's her only point of repair for the moment.
Ellie
It seems Meg is running in a circle in the area.
There was a sighting by police yesterday on Forest Road that runs back to Markfield
Owl and I had a long chat this morning and agree her sightings should be mapped to establish her route and then establish one area to keep going back to has she will be hungry now.
DogLostOwl
Marshall, just seen your post. Thank you. If you see her again, sit on ground, no eye contact, put some food on ground for her.
Ellie
DW out searching Beveridge Lane now but as yet nothing.

CM as you are aware we unable to be in direct contact with the family due to the circumstances but I will ask their family friend Jodie if there is a number they do not mind making public for any sightings. In the meantime any info could be emailed to DogLost Admin and it can be transferred to Megs page. Do you know when this sighting was?
DogLostOwl
We don't have a contact number for the owners, only for friends of the family. They are trying to get my number for the friend who is keeping an eye on their house to ring me but only have their landline and haven't caught him at home yet. He does know Meg so would be a good person to entice her. Meanwhile, advice to all VERY IMPORTANT! Do not pursue Meg. If you see her get down on ground and do not make eye contact. Take sardines or other smelly fish with you. Leave them for her to pick up when you have moved off. Do everything you can to get her to come for food because she will be getting hungry. The aim must be to keep her in one place and off the roads, get her feeding in one place, and then we can bring a trap over. We have enough volunteers to supervise one round the clock. Can your friend do some barbecues, CM? Sausages and smelly bacon. We need lots of patience to bring Meg in, and right now feeding and luring will be the way forward as she will be getting hungry. No point in my coming down with my dog now as this has turned from a tracking job into a catching one. Meg is very fast and it is no use tramping round after her. If anyone wants to talk to me, my number is 07772 432366.Last edited: 2013-07-12 10:36:15 by Owl
CM
Hi, had a report from a friend who lives near where this happened that Meg was seen in the fields off the A50 between the field Head roundabout and the M1 roundabout. on the Newtown Linford side rather than Markfield, and that she is alive and well but frightened, they have tried to catch her but can't as he runs away. is there a contact number for the owners - the numbers on the poster are just crimestoppers or dog lost?
Spindle
So praying that Meg get found safely. I wonder if there is a dog she really knows well who could be encouraged to bark whilst person sitting still, in the area she may be. Alternatively a human voice she is comfortable with. May be stating the obvious but thought Id suggest it.
B30
Thanks for posting your sighting marshall. It's good to know that she's still out there and ok. I wonder if she's trying to get into bins at the warehouse, she must be looking for food.
Ellie
Been following everyone's reports throughout the evening and would like to thank everyone who just dropped everything and headed out to the sighting of Meg. whilst we are not 100% any of these reports are definitely Meg we have no reason to think otherwise
I am sure you are all aware of how to react if you see her, no shouting, chasing, crowding or putting her in danger of running into traffic. She will be very frightened. If you see her sit on the ground, no eye contact, soft noises and try to coax her to you other than grabbing at her.
marshall
11/7/13 saw meg today at about 09 30 on beveridge lane near ellistown she was sat at the side of the road by waitrose warehouse stopped my truck went to call her but she ran off into the bushes. Been back tonight to look again but no sign of her.100% herLast edited: 2013-07-11 22:46:23 by marshall

Spent time driving around Markfield and Copt Oak earlier this evening. No sightings but alerted lots of local residents on Little Shaw Lane and Old House Lane also along Altar Stones Lane. Will keep checking updates tomorrow and head out again after work. Suggest leafletting petrol stations at Flying Horse junction - both sides - the indian restaurant there, the Copt Oak pub and any of the farms and houses? Just thoughts. Brought back all those memories of running around after Tallie, hoping we get the same result for Meg.
tillyb
Again spent time looking with hubby in tow in his car. Gud to c people out looking. I would think she may be lying low by the many farms in the area. If help required tomw eve, let me know x
Daisysmum
I will go down with Mum tomorrow at the same time as she saw her tonight and will take some posters (if the printer decides to work) and put them up at the service station etc x
Snowdrop
Have checked out the roundabouts both A50 and the B591 round to Little Shaw lane, no sightings I'm afraid. Took the opportunity to spread the word to other people while searching in Copt Oak. Thank you to everyone else that was out, I saw the same cars several times so I must have passed you xxx
Ruby Tuesday
I've just driven around for a good while but sadly didn't see Meg. Couldn't get 3G signal so missed the updated details of location and think I was in the wrong area, was south of the roundabout on A50.
Good luck to anyone still there, I have everything crossed x
Blaze
Just seen this,
Stay safe Meg
Daisysmum
If needed I could get there in about an hour x
DogLostOwl
Tallie's people, the Broad family, are just leaving to join the search.
Ellie
Thanks, have updated Snowdrop the clearer location details.
DogLostOwl
More details: sighting was A511 Little Shaw Lane between M1/A50 roundabout and B591 roundabout, and dog appeared to be heading towards Copt Oak. Tillyb has just arrived in the area.
Daisysmum
Better sighting location info = A511 Little Shaw Lane between M1/A50 roundabout and B591 roundabout. Dog was heading towards Copt Oak! My mum still isn't 100% sure it was Meg as she was looking bedraggled and darker, not so shiney!
Ellie
Just spoke to Snowdrop on her car phone. She is obviously aware not to put the dog into danger with traffic. If she sees her she is going to ring me for backup. and ring the police.
Jodie has been informed and she is trying to get people to go out too.
Thank you for reporting this Daisysmum

URGENT this has just been posted on Meg's fb page - My mum has seen a dog that might be Meg near the J22 M1 roundabout/Markfield. About 30 mins ago. The dog was in the central reservation. She has only just got home and hadn't seen that Meg was missing! Can anyone get there quickly? I live in Braunstone but could go if you need me too! Fingers crossed xxxx

I cannot get hold of anybody to notify them and I am at least an hours drive away - if anybody can help in the area, please do! JD xLast edited: 2013-07-11 19:06:36 by JD
Blaze
Thinking about it and logic tells me that as Meg has a number on her collar that he could have rang then it's probably not her with this man.
Ellie
Thanks for info Blaze. We postered Alterstones Lane today so hopefully this gentleman will come forward so we can discount or confirm wether this is Meg or not or Jake another brown and white collie missing in this area.
Blaze
I've just seen this posted on Facebook

Spotted: Markfield

Please post this
Meg the tan collie that ran away from the A50 incident at the weekend was seen last night at alterstones lane , he was with a man of about 60 yrs of age with another black dog , the man said he found the dog last week and believes it was dumped from a lorry , we dint no till today this dog was missing , we've reported it to the police and they've asked us to post it on here , does anyone know this man
Ellie
Snowdrop and I postered prominent places in Markfield. Spoke to people who were all aware and helpful. A lady dog walker took a poster to put at Warren Hill. We walked to the top of the Altar Stones which is the highest vantage point in the area but unfortunately nothing to report Thank you everyone for your help so far

After speaking to Owl this evening we can only stress the importance of leafleting the houses in the whole area and putting up posters on lamposts, Field Head Hotel, shop windows in Markfield etc. It was these that kept the sightings coming in so many people knew about Tallie by the end!! We've posted on facebk so all local friends know and will continue to look when we're out and about. Such an upset to go through, hoping Meg is found safe and sound soon.
DogLostOwl
Meg does live with another dog, and one of the family friends who is involved has been discussing with me the possibility of bringing him out to search. If we can narrow down the area it would be a good way forward. We have to remember that he is likely to be traumatised though as he was in the car at the time, no one wants to get him stressed. Am waiting for someone to obtain a scent item, then I will go and see if we can get a scent and find which direction Meg went, or indeed if she is still around the wooded area where she was seen by tillyb on Monday.
DogLostOwl
There was a dog on the run in this very area in 2011, Tallie the shetland sheepdog ID number 28527. Tallie's family did a huge amount of postering and flyer drops and that is why they had sightings phoned in during the 18 days she was missing. They informed every farm, stables and firm in the area. I have just been talking with them, and they and Tallie have been out walking the area and searching.
Ellie
Thank you so much for helping tillyb and updating us. Thank you for confirming the number on Megs tag can still be used should anyone find her.
DogLostJackalee (Kathryn) - Area Co-ordinator - Greater Manchester
Does Meg live with other dogs? Recently had an incident with very similar circumstances in the North West, please see Duke ID 53758.

Duke was found by his brother after 8 days, the area where he was had been searched a few times but he was down a ditch and hadn't made a sound. Is worth a try. Hope Meg is found soon.
rottie
I have sent poster to Aggregate Industies works at Bardon Hill to put up in the weighbridge were the lorry drivers will see it, i hope you get some news soon, my thoughts are with you.
tillyb
Hi..yes it was tillyb with the family looking this morning around the area of the accident. The road is very busy & noisy so very hard to tell if Meg is still in the area where I saw her on Monday afternoon. There are plenty of fields close by so perhaps she made her way towards them. The tel no. On the tag should still be used if anyone should find her. Its a tragic incident and I really hope she can be found for the owners & family. Meg must be extremely frightened, hungry and exhausted x

This is so sad. I really hope she is found safe & well.

Spoken to Jodie a few moments ago. Meg is still missing. Family friends have gone out this morning to a possible sighting but no news - not sure if this was tillyb? If not tillyb I will forward you Jodie's phone number.
Please bare in mind due to the severity of the accident, we are not able to speak directly to family members, thank you everyone for helping.

Have spoken to family friend.
Meg was travelling in a car which was involved in a tragic accident on Saturday on the A50 at Markfield.
She is microchipped and wearing a red collar but the tag number not in use.
It is not known if she was injured in the accident as no one saw her, the other dog a black and white collie was detained.
Meg is very fit and active and a car chaser.
She lives in Swadlincote, DE11 so just possible she may be trying to head home, neighbours are aware and keeping an eye out.
Can alerts go out to cover these areas please and any help postering appreciated.
Have given general advice and will email advice sheets plus contact numbers although will do a lot of calls etc myself as obviously everyone distressed.
The first phone number is Det Con Peter Davies and the other is DogLost Admin
