So glad to hear that Dee Dee is doing well Mandy, and thank you so much for updating us. Wonderful to hear that your archery shoots will be raising funds - you'll have to invite me down and i'll show you just how bad i am at archery! If you sponsored me to hit the gold, you wouldn't get much! Take a look if you have a moment at Muskie's page - Foxhound 24/9/2006, he's off on a wander and his mum really could do with some support at the mo. Dee xxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

well dee dee went to the vets today, she has got anti inflammatories for her hips, anti biotics tabs just to make sure she has not picked anything up, and anti biotic scrub for her pads that she had rubbed raw from all the walking. she is a bit under weight, but nothing to really worry about. she has got to have plenty of rest as well which i'm making sure she gets. mandyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

well i managed to sleep in a bed last night and it was sooo nice.lol dee dee will not go to the garden at the moment or anywhere else in the house without me, so i'm not going back to work til thursday, i think she needs the security at the moment. although we did put a lot of effort in, i don't think we would have been able to keep it going without the help of this site, a few times we broke down and one of you would get in touch with us and encourage us. on satuday after we had camped out all night and she didn't show, we were at our wits end, we didn't know what to do next, then we spoke to brian, and dee arrived and chris was there as well. and they helped to pick us back up again and continue. chris has been there when ever we need help and i thankyou so much for that. don and i have decided that when we go to archery shoots we are going to raise funds for this site, we have so many people that have dogs at archery, so we are going full out to get some funds for you. dee dee will be going to the vets later today to just make sure she is ok, i will give you an update when we have come home. and again we would all like to thank everyone on this site for keeping us going. mandyLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi everyone from a very very happy mandy and a very tired and aching dee dee. last night we sent up a little bit of an inticement just for dee dee. what we did was first we made the hole in the fence bigger and we made it go lower, so all she had to do was walk in. then we put a bit of her mess near the hole so that when she put her head through the fence she would smell her smell. last night we had a roast chicken dinner and i boiled the carcass and put chicken seasoning in it so it really did smell lovely, we put that and some mushed up sardines out in the garden, we also left a little bit of the stock in a bowl. the sardines continued after that and we put some on the door post on the back door. the first i knew of it was when she pushed past me on her way upstairs to her water we live in a town house) i stroked her as she went by and just said her name quitely, then i followed her upstairs, she was still a bit funny about coming near me, so i got on all 4's and put my head into her, at that point her tail wagged like mad. we are going to take her to the vets to get her checked over, and now she has had some rest we can see how much effort it took for her to get home. she now can hardly stand let alone walk, but she is getting so many cuddles. the whole in the fence is now mended, that was mended at 7 this morning and we are going to check the garden before we let her out in future. i don't want to go through this again. thank you everyone on this site for all the support and if in the future i can be of any help then please do not hesitate to call me. i will be checking in on the site as i'm giving a lot of support to harry's owners. Based on the "triangle theory" Mandy, it seems the dogs travel all three sides of it until they find their courage to get back home, so you're probably right that she's been wandering the same places over and over. Last night may have worried her some so she may give tonight a miss but if you keep up the food and scents then she'll soon find them.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

well i've just come back from the alleyway where i saw dee dee last night. sat there for a while hoping to see her again, but nothing. we have put a trail of sardines down and earlier we cook some chicken bones with added chicken stock, it smelt really lovely and we have put a trail of that out also. its a bit later then last night, but there is still a chance. the other night 2 boys with a man who drinks a lot said that they saw dee dee on the grass between the alleys, but when they went up there she moved, and they don't know which way she went. looks like she has been over here possibly before. so its playing the waiting game again. Dee Dee seems to have taken off again. She is literally wandering past her own home but hasn't found the courage to walk in the door yet. She saw and recognised her mum but just didn't find enough bravado to come home. Mandy is back out scenting from the A20 and laying another food trail back to the house. I wonder if Dee Dee has now made herself her route back and forth from the lake where it's quiet and safe and just needs to remember that home is where its nicer. It may take some time but if she can still smell those smells and find dinner en route then she'll find her courage soon, I'm sure. Keep it up Mandy, you're doing really well.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

She is heading back to you because you have laid scent trails and done all the right things. Now be patient and carry on following Dee's advice. Don't panic if she goes off course, she is very hungry and may follow a food scent if there is one to grab a snack, but she is moving back to you and that is the important thing. PS dog trap not down yet - she's wandering too big an exposed public area, we need to focus on exactly where she is laying out before we put anything down - hence the scenting and food laying. Trap is in my car and ready to go up when we need to :o)Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

right... just got back from meeting Mandy and her family at the lakes. No sightings this morning but everything seems to be pointing to her being in the lakes and hiding up. We need urgently posters to go up on Oxley Shaw Lane, by Leybourne Primary School and down towards Rectory Lane South, back towards top end of Lunsford Lane. We've sent Mandy home for some rest and to organise some posters and hopefully she'll be back at dusk in the hope of new sightings. In the meantime if you are in the area can you assist with posters? Fresh dog footprints seen in various places around the lake without human footprints accompanying them so we just need to bring Dee Dee out safely. Mandy will be scenting the area and leading her out towards the bend of Oxley Shaw Lane leading towards Rectory Lane South with lots of smelly food so keep an eye out for Mandy & Co there. Just to let you know that I lost my dog for a whole calendar month. Like Dee Dee, Alleyn was living in some woods on a 3,500 acre country estate just North of Sevenoaks. In the end she was caught in a dog trap. Calling her was pointless. There was one occasion when I sighted my dog and called her to me, she stopped running, looked at me and then just carried on running into the woods where she was lost again. When dogs are in 'ferrell mode' they are frightened and don't recognise their owners. However once she was caught she knew me straight away. Alleyn is a German Shepherd and they are a shy breed, they won't approach humans unless they are desperate. When she was ferrell she thought I was just another human because she did not get the time to really recognise me if you know what I mean. With Alleyn she had a food source of rabbits and pheasants, a water source, and she lived in a dry, warm evergreen wood. When she first went missing we had lots of sightings and would drive to that place and start calling - but by the time we got there it was too late, apart from the one time I just mentioned. Then the sightings stopped for three weeks, and I thought she was dead. Then they started again. Animal charities have told me that when a dog first goes missing it manically runs around so you get lots of sightings. Then if it can establish a food and water source it develops a pattern where it will avoid people - so the sightings die down. I think for some reason Alleyn got hungry again and so the sightings increased. The trap that caught her was near the wood where she was living, and it was a dead pheasant that lured her into it. I hope this information helps you.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

just got back from going round the wood and lakes, have not seen anything yet, but i wouldn't blame dee dee for staying under cover, it was pouring down. come home to dry some clothes before i head out again. why does it stop raining when we decided to come home? atleast we know the area now. met brian while i was in the woods, he is a lovely man. when dee dee first went missing i thought we would be doing it by ourselves. its mean a lot to all the family that we have so many people giving us support.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just got back to office"DRENCHED!!" I have circled the whole area and have spoken to numerous walkers( they too must be mad to go out in this!) There are plenty of hiding area's so we need as much help as possible. I have given out posters to the walkers and put some up in the woods. If there is another siting today then we really must consider the trap.I will head out again when the weather calmes down...BrianLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi everyone, i've had to come home i got soaked out there. when i left the area brian was on his way down. since i've been home i have rang the secretary of my archery club as i know she has a tent. we will be picking it up later and don and i will be camping out tonight in the woods and ww will be having a bbq, we are going to cook sausages and things that give off a nice smell.( thankyou chris for the idea) since i've been home ive had another phone call from the lady who rang yesterday, informing me that her friend was walking her dog yesterday along oxley shaw lane and saw dee dee. we are closing the net slowly.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Positive sighting even down to having collar on, she has been taking herself up and down to the pub and shop for the scavenging of food. She has been using Oxley Shaw lane, Owner has contacted dog warden who is on his way but this is a big area with lots of escape routes and need to play it slowly and with care. Its pouring with rain so I think she may wait in her hidey hole until the weather clears hopefully this afternoon. ChrisxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

i've just been out and looked along the A20 for a suitable place to leave clothing and scent the area, couldn't find anything, so i went to talk to some people that live along there that visit my works, i explained what i was doing and they suggested underneath their caravan. the caravan is right up their drive and away from the main road a bit, so i have made a little bed underneath with some clothing and i have left some food and i've scented all around it, down the drive and along the path near the A20 in the direction that the ladysighted dee dee this morning. the people are going away for the weekend so the driveway and house will be nice and quiet. i will check it in the morning and i'm going to stay in that area for some time hoping dee dee will walk back down there.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

it might be a bit different with dee dee because i was there where she was born, i had to help her mum give birth, break the sac's and my voice was one of the first she heard. i was the pack leader as i had to bring up all 8 puppies myself, their mum had an infection so she couldn't feed them, which i did, i taught them how to play bow (which was mighty painfull, when puppy teeth sank into my nose) but when i see her i'm not going to go over the top, i'm going to get down to her level and offer her treats, if she makes to run off i will keep very still and let her see i'm no threat. i've been a mummy dog once and i can do it again. but i will take on board what you have said, and i thank all of you for your help. coming on here and reporting and getting advise and help has meant a lot to me, and kept me from going totally insane. That's great Mandy - whilst you are walking around make sure you are not making a sound - not a whisper - if you should dee dee's name she'll run from you - if you make scary noises like loud footsteps, whistles etc then this will also scare her (see Alleyn's story - GSD TN area reunited last week - very similar situation). Quiet whispers and very low body movement is the only way to go... listen for movements in the trees, don't rush to her. If you do see her, immediately crouch and whisper to her, not looking at her at all. Silence, smelly foods and lots of wee is your key here! Dee xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

i've just got home from walking all around the estates, lakes and woodlands. nothing to report, but we will be going out later to find a place that will be undercover and away from the A20. i will be laying down a tshirt that i'm wearing now, some food and i will be scenting all around it and the way to it from the A20.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Gareth - if this is Dee Dee you need to impress on your mum and your family that she will now be living on her wits - she'll be acting feral. The chances are that she will not come running to you when she sees them - in fact she'll more than likely run away - it will be heartbreaking. If any of them spot her then they need to adopt dog behaviour - quiet voices, low body actions and no eye contact. This is very very very important... Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

No luck at the moment . Just got in and have been passed the place where she had been sighted. but the time difference from the reporting and the sighting was a few hours difference.Have been around Oxley Shaw estate and Bird estate. Gone down all the little side roads and dead ends. Where she was sighted today is between the traffic lights and tesco express which is where she was sighted Sunday. Must have a bolt hole there somewhere. ChrisxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

wooooooooooo hoooooooooooooo!!! OK now i need you to get scenting... but i think this time we need you to not get her away from there. we need to find a spot for her to stay in. choose a place (in the woods?) where she'll be safe. Put down smelly food at the same place - pilchards, butchers bones etc etc. yes foxes might get them but they might not. Round where you put the food put your scents again. Keep going back every am and every eve to do the same thing over and over. think you can do that? Dee xLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Yeehaaa people. We had a breakthrough. The woman that was sighted trying to catch Dee Dee has just phoned up with the details of what happened. It appears that first of all, Dee Dee was on the Tesco's side of the A20. Possibly driven across through fright. The woman tried to catch her as well as a man in a Micra. Dee Dee was walking back and forth along the A20 first to New Hythe Lane and then wandered back to Tescos. We also found out that it was Tesco's that phoned the police so now we have something to work on with the police side of things.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

PS loose dogs tend to come out at daybreak and dusk....few humans around - but the fishermen at the carp lakes fish 24hrs a day - worth going there of an evening (wouldn't do morning they sleep!!) and having a word to see if they've seen anything. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Just thinking... if she went down lunsford lane then she will have headed either into the woods round the lakes and may still be there feasting on fish bait or the new housing estate... or the industrial estate - lots of drivers going in and out there. we have been through the bird estate and put a lot of posters out, we have gone over the bridge that goes over the M20 and left some leaflets down towards new hythe. we have also been to ditton and put some leaflets up there, leaflets in cob down sports and social club. while postering my sisters group had a man in luburnum drive larkfield, tell them that his friend and himself saw a dog on friday 29th sept, that looked like dee dee, but he couldn't remember where. he is going to find out and ring us. so there is a chance we might get info on cefar? my sisters group even put a poster in every single trolley bay in tesco's and recycle bins. Brilliant.... are Larkfield shops displaying the posters? Don't forget to do the chippies and above cash machines - where people will queue and look aimlessly around at posters on walls.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Area is well postered and suggest to poster West Malling and also Ditton , Larkfield is pretty well covered. Try to spread those posters gradually further out. Have been looking for likely places where Deedee may take refuge. The lad in the park gave us hope as this is just over the road fromDeedees home. He said that ten minutes before we arrived he had seen an alsation in the long grass, didnt think it was with an owner but later we saw a lady with a german shepherd and another dog in the same area, As he knew we were looking for this dog , i have to ask myself why didnt he react and try to catch it or phone?? Most lads have a mobile. but we have to run with this possible sighting and think owner should return when quieter also take pilchards with you(smelly). Remember that dogs can become very cautious when loose and may not respond to your voice as you might expect. She was seen alot on the estate and now nothing, lying low or taken in ?? but she had contact details on her. Maybe waiting for reward to go up? Any further info or need to be taken to kennels to look at a dog please ring me . Early days yet. ChrisxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

hi everyone, just got back from postering quite a bit of the bird estate in larkfield. (its called bird estate cos its got roads like swan, merlin, swallow. etc) asked while we were going round and also gaveout posters to people walking round, all the people we asked had not seen her. we met chris at tesco's and we went for a ride around larkfield, then we came back to east malling so chris could see the area. while we were over the field near to my house we had some boys ask if we were looking for a dog and said they had seen one in the long grass, but was not sure if it was with anyone. we rode around the field and we got out and walked around and i called her name, but to no avail. come home to get something to drink and then work out where to go next. chris has recommended that we look over the fieldLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ok, I have posted the chain email to everyone on my hotmail list, thats about 50 people that know now. I have already scented and there is a clear trail along the A20. As for the reason i'm stuck at home, I have to keep an eye for calls to the home phone. I really wish I could go out but at the moment, I have next to none posters and I need to keep this house tidy to make sure we don't fall ill. We have almost the entire area on alert and even people we don't know are looking. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Gareth - right - firstly don't worry about being stuck at home - Dee Dee is unlikely to go anywhere but the front doorstep if she just appears - so get yourself back out there - as long as one of you is contactable by phone whereever you are its more important that you are out postering. The more posters the more chance you get. Ignore the fact that your mates don't like chain emails, this is a totally different situation to wishing luck from an irish pixie with a four leaf clover - please beg and tell them to spread the word locally. If they hate you for insisting then assure them you'll buy them a pint or five next time you hit the town. It's really really really important we get a new sighting and as soon as possible - don't forget to scent from home down to the A20 too if you haven't already. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Ok, it's Mandy's son again. My name is Gareth. In relation to posting along the A20, at the moment i'm stuck at what we call "home base" just in case Dee Dee returns. However, my mum and sister are posting over 100 posters across the area. The chain mail, on the other hand, may be difficult. My friends are not fond of them. I will try but I do not think it will get results. My friends are varied across Britain though. Lets get the whole country on alert lol.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Mandy's son (sorry don't know your name) how about setting up yourself a chain email - you must know loads of people in East Malling who know more people in East Malling - get Dee Dee's face out there! Are you also able to do a leaflet drop of posters to all the houses and shops along the A20 where she was last seen to see if we can get another sighting of her?Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Found what police section was on Sunday. They are back on tommorrow at 8am. Got phone number, will ring tommorrow to see if I can get information where Dee Dee went. Our local library does fax but we have no idea how much it costs. Will enquire. Mandy's son here. I was just wondering if there is anything I can do to help out. I'm quite skilled at ICT so anything that needs doing, I can do. Any ideas? Our family members have been called in too, my Auntie is on her way from Hampshire. I'm worried about my mum and I'm trying to get her to sleep. She's running herself ragged.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

another update for you, just phoned maidstone police headquarters after ripping another officer apart and threatening press action and finally got through to control to find out there was no record of me reporting my dog missing after speaking to jason who is an absolute darling i managed to finally get somewhere he checked all missing dogs in all areas but unfortunately none fitted dee dee's description. i have now been given a reference number and was told to ring the control centre tomorrow and ask for the maidstone front desk who should be able to tell me who was on duty @4pm on sunday and when they are on duty again so i might be able to get more infoLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

Chris owner did get shown one GSD type yesterday and it wasn't her. I think with the two latest sightings we must at present assume she's out and loose. We have no confirmed reports that the dog by B&Q was actually caught although I'm hoping Brian can get to the bottom of that.Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

One of the dogs that Rochester police said they had was distinctive , B & Q ,I was there yesterday , missed it. Which way were they heading? Went through that way on my search for Vikki passing through Aylesford looking for Cefar and daughter. Can we honestly trust what the police say!!!! ChrisxLast edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18

New sighting yesterday by the garage by B&Q on the A20 and further confirmation that a woman and two policemen were trying to catch her further down on the A20 yesterday. Owner now going out to scent. Mobile getting low - i have alternative number here if anyone needs it if you can't get through to owner. Last edited: 2010-05-11 02:17:18
